Artist's Comments

for the contest.
Had some fun with colors here.

Ok so, I usually want people to use their own brain when they look at my art. I let them make their own calls and think what ever they want. They can analyse the crap out of my work and symbolism in it. Most of the time, I will not butt in because to me the drawing tells a story I developed. What others see in it, is a theory they developed, they did their own share of work, trying to understand what they see. Or heck, they might just give a quick glance, think it's pretty or ugly, I don't care. It's the viewer's right to make a theory and judgement. Beauty of art; freedom of imagination.

However, this time I think I'm going to explain a couple of simple points of this image.

Evil - Live. That bit is obvious. To those who haven't noticed it yet: yeah, evil spelled backwards is live. It created a comfy contrast, which was enhanced with the colors: blue-ish green vs vibrant greenish yellow. I wanted to use something lime-ish yellow in my work because it's so vibrant, it is like life at its best. I didn't wanna use red for the evil because it's awfully cliche and I wanted to avoid sinking into complete unoriginality.

The weird thing in the middle, with the string-like stuff, is a scale. What I want to tell with this is that there's a balance to be maintained. Without one there is no other. In the middle of the scale the colors mix because to me there is a gray area. The world is not black and white to me. I do not live my life in a world where there's a classic battle between good and evil going on. There's no red horned man and a beautiful woman with white wings going all elegantly bitch slapping each other with epicness. This is my view though, and I know there are many who do see it as a black and white place with no blend. I won't debate on that matter. Each on our own, right?

The watery and drippy look. Ever heard the saying "panta rhei kai ouden menei"? Well it basically means everything flows. Nothing stays still; Life flows. Things change. Good and Evil are a part of life's flow.

In the splatters you can also see that they are connecting the two words. The splatters of the figure in the middle even seem to fly towards the "evil" and vice versa. This is my attempt to tell that the two sides are drawn together though most pursue to stay on the good sight, there is still a dark side in all of us. Naturally it's also another way to kind of refer to the balance.

The figure on the evil side is alone whereas there are two figures on the good side. Well, as said, most try to reach for the good and some succeed at it very well, so some it's a struggle, like to the figure in the middle. Loneliness is something that I can imagine someone evil encountering. It might be the cause of heir actions or the result of it.

Leeet's see, what else is there to tell? *ponder* Well can't come up with more babble so I think I'm gonna leave it to this. The rest is up to the viewer and maybe they wanna see even deeper levels to what I just laid out in a rather superficial way. (yeah even I can't dig too deep to the reasons I do something when it comes to art. Or maybe I can but I'm lazy...aaaanywhoo)
